The two nines on this course have distinctive personalities. The front has more
trouble as bunkers and water often come into play. The back nine with fewer
hazards is longer, more rolling and tighter. One of the longest holes in
northern Michigan is the par five 618-yards 17th hole -- a brute that demands
three or four good shots to reach the elevated green .

Mistwood Golf Course

A Jerry Matthews design that opened to rave reviews. A course with many looks
and contours. A mile west of the village of Lake Ann, the complex includes a
fully-equipped clubhouse, practice range with target greens and sand bunker, and
two putting greens. Lessons are available from PGA Pro, Greg Gay. With a slope
rating of 130 from the back tees, this manicured course is enhanced by ponds
that come into play on 11 holes. Sand traps Iine the bentgrass fairways and
protect the large terraced greens. Rolling, open land, tree-lined fairways,
wetlands, and mature hardwoods. -- a nice natural look to Mistwood.

A short drive from Sugar Loaf -- nine holes, a 3202-yard layout with the
Mackinac Bridge replica that golfers must cross between the second green and the
third tee. Old farm implements and equipment are cleverly placed throughout the
course, befitting the agricultural roots of the land. There is also a trout
pond. "A welcome respite" from the more celebrated layouts in the north. A
home-spun golf course affordable for locals and tourists alike.

Dunes Golf Club

Built and designed by owner Dean Wall, the Club is noted for its rolling
bluegrass fairways and smooth greens. Maple and beech trees line many of the
fairways here, so accuracy is a key. The par 4's are shorter but demand pinpoint
second shots. Greens are cut daily and fairways mowed at least twice a week.
Local residents and summer visitors alike feel at home here.

Two distinctly different 18-hole courses:
The new championship Mountain Ridge with its dramatic elevation changes and
panoramic views of northern Michigan's most spectacular terrain. Despite its
challenging layout, four tee boxes on each hole make Mountain Ridge very
playable. The scenic Betsie Valley Course meanders through meadows graced by
winding streams and still ponds. Water comes into play on nine of 18 holes and
its isolated fairways are accented with wildflowers and flanked by towering
pines and hardwoods.
